Mental Health Awareness Week - 18th to 24th May 2020
The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year is kindness. Why kindness? Click here, or on the image to find out.
Below you will find a few activities, all of the sort of things you can find happening on any given day at the Abbey Physic Community Garden. There's one for each day, to help give you some ideas of ways in which you can share kindness with others this week.
Most importantly, we hope everyone is remembering to try to be kind to themselves. We're looking forward to seeing all of you again soon at the garden - in the meantime you can always reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01795 539915.
Monday, 18th May - Bake a Gift
Share kindness with a neighbour
Baking is a staple pastime in the Faversham Community Kitchen at the garden. Sharing food is one of the simplest ways to form a connection, so why not reach out to a neighbour this week with a home-baked sweet treat? Warm fresh scones are hard to beat, and easy to bake, follow along with this step-by-step video:
We've also put together some simple recipes for you to try, these can be downloaded in a printable format below.
Tuesday, 19th May - A Crafty Activity
Share kindness with your family
Arts and crafts are all around us at the Abbey Physic Community Garden. Creative self expression is an important outlet for all of us and a good way to form a connection with others.
We've put together a crafty activity you can share with your children: assembling a homemade 'indoor garden'. You can download a printable guide below.
Wednesday, 20th May - Online Coffee Catch Up
Share kindness with friends
What day at the garden would be complete without a coffee and a chat? Taking time to listen to others, and knowing that you will be listened to when you need to share your life's ups and downs.
We will be having a Zoom meet-up this Wednesday between 11am and midday - everyone's welcome to pop in and say hello to a few familiar faces. If you need a little help getting connected up with Zoom, just drop us an email at email@example.com

Thursday, 21st May - Sing-a-Long Online
Share kindness in song
Once the weekly singing group arrived at the garden last year, we wondered how we'd ever got along without it. It is a genuine joy to relax in the afternoon sun and listen to their sweet and soulful songs.
Garden choir leader Lissie has been uploading weekly relaxation and sing-a-long videos to her YouTube channel while in lockdown, and she has recorded a special one for us for Mental Health Awareness Week.
Friday, 22nd May - Take a Tour of The Garden
Share kindness with the community
We know many of our community of members and friends are missing the garden at the moment, so we wanted to share it with you in a guided tour of the familiar beds and borders as they spring into life, with one or two new features to spot along the way!
Saturday, 23rd May - Lockdown Leftover Seed Challenge
Share kindness with your plants!
At the Abbey Physic Community Garden we've always believed in the healing value of growing and caring for plants. Bringing green life, and even delicious fruit, from some simple seeds and soil can be a peaceful and rewarding activity for anyone.
We've also put together some video guides to help get you started with the challenge, watch these on YouTube with the links below:
Sunday, 24th May - Make a Special Call
Share kindness with an old friend
Last, but certainly not least, this is the perfect time to reach out to someone you haven't spoken to for a while. Make that call you've been meaning to make to an old friend, let someone know you're thinking of them and share some of the highs and lows you've both been through.
