Building a Dead Hedge

Autumn 2018

You may be familiar with the concept of a ‘dead hedge’ from the sizeable example of one in the Abbey Physic Community Garden. They are a great way to make use of dead wood, brambles and the like, by piling it up between posts to make a sturdy fence and a wonderful habitat for all kinds of bugs and creepy-crawlies.

The dead hedge in the churchyard will soon be a home to beehives, from which the members of the Physic Garden will gather honey to sell (and we’ll probably eat some too!)

Unfortunately the first dozen posts went in in the wrong place...
