Keeping The Lights On - 2021 Week 2
23 January 2021
Dear Members and Friends,
Welome back to the lockdown blog from the Abbey Physic Community Garden. We've had a few gloriously crisp winter days, and it was refreshing to see something resembling a frost this week, which is "good for the soil" as anyone who dares to mention frost to me will certainly have been promptly informed.
Do please scroll down to the featured items below - there's a lot to see and take part in during lockdown. Be sure to check out the details of the new 'Gardening For the Mind' online meditation and mindful-journalling sessions, beginning this week on Thursday, 28th January at 4pm.
Speaking of things to take part in, the Faversham Community Kitchen online cook-a-long and social sessions are continuing each week on Zoom during lockdown. Throughout January the Community Kitchen will be preparing recipes inspired by 'Veganuary', and this week they were featured in an article on the month-long campaign, containing lots of vegan recipes and links to local vegan businesses: click to read.
Join in with the Faversham Community Kitchen on Fridays, cook along or just drop in to say hello, with sessions for members at 11am, and friends and families at 3pm.

This week we would also like to extend a special thank you to Councillor Ben J Martin, Cabinet Member for Housing, and Group Leader of Swale Borough Council Liberal Democrats, whose donation from the 'Community Members Grant' fund will help enable the Abbey Physic Community Garden to continue to support our members and local community.
Thank you from all of us here at the garden.
Beginning this Thursday, 28th January at 4pm on Zoom, a free online meditation and mindful journalling series, led by Simone Stolton of the Kent Mindfulness Centre. No experience or special materials needed, just bring yourself and something to write with.
The sessions run for nine weeks - no need to attend every session, stop by when you can.

Normally in these blogs you'll find links to new videos we've put up, but this week we wanted to feature the Abbey Physic Community Garden YouTube channel itself.
Please click on the image to visit and subscribe to the channel, where we will be posting new clips throughout lockdown and the year ahead.
This week of course we have the latest instalments of 'Get Gardening' and 'The Abbey Report', and the first in a new series looking back at some good memories from 2020.
The Faversham Community Kitchen's Alex and Karen are at it again, making another appearance on BBC Radio! this time on Radio Kent's 'Mid-Morning' show.
Please click on the image to listen, and skip to 3:40:30 to hear the girls discussing baking and the benefits of connecting with people through Zoom during lockdown. Details of how to join Alex and Karen for a Community Kitchen cook-a-long are above.
Lissie's song this week is a cheerful and simple round you can join in with at home, with timeless (but very timely) words by the poet Lemn Sissay, reminding us all to find the light in dark times, and just take things one day at a time.
Please click on the image to listen along on YouTube, and the lyrics are in the video description if you're feeling in good voice.
Wishing everyone a great week - The Abbey Physic Community Garden Team
